I found the same thing about BoH restarting on my iPhone 4s. I started playing in the 1.5 days, and have always played with high res textures on. At first, I could duck out, respond to text messages, even some e-mail, but memory hogs like Safari and other games always presented a problem.
Immediately after upgrading to iOS 7, I couldn't go back to the home screen and get back in. Text messages were out, e-mail was out, everything - and it wasn't just BoH, virtually nothing on the phone could return to where I left off. Therefore, I've never seen this as a high res texture issue, but as an iOS 7 issue. In iOS 8, there is a way to respond to text messages right from the roll-down notification, that helped tremendously. So with that said, I don't think there's much Venan can do about it. It comes down to the fact that iPhone 4s and iPad 2 are obsolete devices crippled with iOS 7 and 8, and only 512MB of RAM. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it seems that the memory manager in iOS was implemented without any sort of capability for swapping, and it simply responds by requesting that applications running in the background release their memory - and applications respond by shutting down or are shut down.
Apple stepped up to 1GB in the iPhone 5, but has unfortunately remained there with the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and 6 Plus, so unless a future iOS comes out with a better memory manager, we're sure to see these new phones suffer from the same problems sooner rather than later.
