Creating a new character, and replaying BoH from the beginning, can be a huge amount of fun. Especially at the lower levels, BoH is an incredibly fun game. Replaying BoH reminds me a lot of the built in replay value of Venan’s Space Miner: Space ORE Bust (which has a definite ending). You will also meet cool new people and new Guild mates.

For about the cost of a new PC game (676- 1000 GS), you can start a new character (using Gold Shields to buy Tier 6 and Tier 11 Gear with twelve Tier 3/ 4 Gems), and experience the best parts of BoH. Spending these Gold Shields (Note 1), saves you a ton of silver coin/ squire valor/ Soldier Valor since you are only buying two pieces of Gear (Tier 6 and Tier 11) for each Gear Slot.

This is the only time in the game you can equip Gear over such a wide range of Levels (Level 1 to Level 18 for Tier 6 Gear, and Level 15 to Level 28 for Tier 11 Gear).

Buying Gems for Replay
By twelve Tier 3 Gems, twelve Tier 4 Gems or a mixture of the two. This will cost 108- 144 GS for Tier 3 Gems, 324- 432 GS for Tier 4 Gems and somewhere in between for a mixture.

Depending on your real world budget, and Venan GS sales, three to six Tier 4 Haste Gems are a good investment.

Remaining Gems should be based on your PvE or PvP playing style.

Rating: Expert and up

Eventually you will open all your Chest Armor, Helm and Leg Armor Gem Slots. Giving you 36% of your base Augment Gem Stat Bonus (1 Pieces of Gear * 4 Location Bonus, 2 Pieces of Gear * 3 Location Bonus / 28 Total Location Bonus) using just these twelve Gems. Once you earn Amulet and Ring, and open their Gem Slots, it will give 43% of your base Augment Gem Stat Bonus (3 Pieces of Gear * 4 Location Bonus / 28 Total Location Bonus) using the same twelve starting Gems.

Tier, GS, Bonus, GS per +1
3, 12, +6, 2
3, 9, +6, 1.5

4, 36, +8, 4.5
4, 27, +8, 3.375

5, 80, +10, 8
5, 60, +10, 6

6, 120, +12, 10
6, 90, +12, 7.5

If you like to replay BoH, Tier 3 and Tier 4 Gems are your best investment.

If you like the grind of high level play, it is better to invest Tier 6 Gems. Unfortunately in BoH, once you buy a Gem, you only have 3 days to change your mind. So if you buy 20 Tier 6 Melee Gems for your Shadow Walker, and then change your mind 30 days later, there is no way to swap them for 20 Tier 6 Gems of another kind.

MY PERSONAL OPINION
Even if Venan allowed you to preserve the money and effort you put into your character by allowing you to sell back a Gem for full price, Weapon, Armor, and Jewelry (Cloak, Amulet, Ring) have a larger impact. The distance in Stats between Tier 11, Weapons and Armor, and Tier 18, Weapons and Armor, is insane.

Hero Tokens are better since they are permanent, and you can max out all Stats, but Venan’s business model makes buying Hero Tokens from Majerio’s with Gold Shields the single worst use of Gold Shields in the Game, with the possible exception of buying the “Transfer Plate, Magic, Healing” from the Black Market.

Even if Venan one day offers a full set of Tier 17 Seasonal Gear, Seasonal Gear is almost as expensive in Gold Shields per bonus as Hero Tokens, without the lower Level requirement of Gear bought from Majerio’s with Gold Shields.

Tier 6 and Tier 11 Gear offer outstanding value during a replay of BoH.

Note 1)

Good purchases for a replay.

2014 Note: In 2012 December, Venan lowered Gear, and Gem, costs for preexisting item. In 2013 December, Venan lowered Gem costs, but not Gear costs, for preexisting items. In 2014 December, Venan did not lower any costs (Gear or Gems).

Not only useful for the experienced player, but also excellent service for the new gamers who want to add an immediate impact. Definitely one of the best forum posts recently!

Gems v3.0

Until Venan adds Tier 8 Gems, this advice is mostly helpful. If someone wants to run the latest numbers, I will edit the original post.
