Heroes!

Welcome to our latest installment of the Book of Heroes development blog!

In a year that’s already seen hundreds of improvements to the world of Book of Heroes, we’re excited to announce what we have in store for the year ahead!

Before we begin, a brief disclaimer! It is VERY IMPORTANT that I note all of this is a work in progress and can change drastically before its final release.

Book of Heroes 2.1: The Coliseum

That’s right – the PvP Beta is ending and Lady Gwynn is preparing for Season 1! We’ve been hard at work on some pretty significant enhancements to PvP, both adding new systems and enhancing current ones. This patch has been coming along pretty well, and we hope to have it out in the month of June. Here are the highlights:

    PvP Leagues and Ratings

  • Leaderboards and rankings in PvP will now use a fully featured modified ELO system for rankings.
  • Players will have a public rating for each season.
  • Players will move up and down the ranks, moving them into other leagues. These leagues will have an impact on the rewards that can be earned from PvP.

    Vastly Improved Matchmaking

  • Gone are the days of being matched solely according to your Might. Players will now be matched with other players based on their true skill and performance.
  • Bottom Line: Over time, players should be consistently getting placed into matches against equally skilled and ranked players, making for a way more fun PvP experience.

    All new PvP rewards

  • A full reward structure with appropriate gear all the way up to tier 16, Gems up to tier 6, and much more!
  • Gear earned in the Coliseum will be balanced for PvP and have a PvP specific stat, which takes effect only when facing other players.
  • Every week, based on their standings and performance, players will earn special Medals that can be used to get items that are completely unique.
  • Every season (approximately 3 months) will also have unique rewards to earn that show off how well you did.

    Replays

  • Players will be able to view match history and replays of those matches.
  • Players will be able to share replays of their PvP matches with others in their guild, through whispers, and through the PvP chat channel.

    Direct Challenges

  • Players will be able to issue direct challenges to their friends, guild mates, etc.
  • Although certainly not mandatory, enterprising heroes may even wish to make a wager against their opponent.
  • This feature is currently slated to come shortly after our initial PvP patch, most likely in 2.1.1.

We’re also making significant changes to the player spec system. We’ve been listening to your feedback and the consensus is clear: to stay competitive in the Coliseum, you really could use an extra player spec.

Well, we hear you! That’s why we’re giving ALL players an additional spec that can be used in the Coliseum for FREE. We want all of our players to have the opportunity to customize their hero for the Coliseum in a meaningful way!

We’ll also be opening up three additional specs that can be purchased with Gold Shields. Anyone that already has an additional spec will receive the free Coliseum-Only spec in addition to the spec they’ve previously purchased (for a total of three). These specs can continue to be used for PvE or PvP as the player sees fit. We’re also improving how these specs are managed and chosen.

+1 PVP Only spec upon upgrade
=3 Specs after upgrade
+2 More all purpose specs available for purchase
=5 total specs (1 PVP only spec, 1 free all purpose spec you start the game with, 3 additional purchaseable specs)

Darkhorse wrote:-Spec you start the game with is free
-PVP only spec is free
-Currently additional specs are priced at 90 GS. Like anything else that we preview, it's subject to change on, before, or after release.

Beyond Book of Heroes 2.1

PvP not your cup of tea? Just because 2.1 is around the corner doesn’t mean we aren’t working on other features! Just take a look at what’s in store:

Vile Realm Chapters 4 and 5

  • We’re still hard at work on Vile Realm Chapters 4 and 5. At the moment, it is likely that we will release both of these chapters together in the upcoming months. This release will come with new quests, raids, items, dungeons, and will raise the level cap to 35! These chapters will tie up the current storyline in your campaign against Caliban, and may even tease at what’s to come in the future!

    Daily Quests

  • We’ve also heard from many players that while the daily quest feature is useful early on, it’s not as beneficial to elder players. We’re going to be addressing this with a revamp to the entire feature that will make these quests worth doing for the majority of our users. Don’t worry, if you’re working on the 366 day achievement, you will not lose your progress!

    <Redacted – TOP SECRET>

  • We’ve also begun working on a new "top secret" system that will encompass the entire game, which will introduce a new way for characters to advance their heroes. This system will offer statistical upgrades and potentially even give them new powers and skills to use! Unfortunately there isn’t much we can say right now, but we’ll be telling you more about this feature when the time comes.

Well, this will probably be a lot to digest, but there was a lot to talk about! We’re all very excited about what we have in store for our players as 2014 moves forward, and we hope that you’re all as excited as we are!

Do those of us who already bought a second spec for pvp get respec tokens so we can use that spec for something else, like onslaught for example?

Are any changes in the works for the Justicar class so that it's on the same level as Shadow Walkers and War Mages during onslaught phases?

More class balancing is in the works, but that's not the purpose or the topic of this thread, so let's focus our attention on the new features! ;) We'll talk about that stuff when the time comes.
