grammar in news messages - KNOWN ISSUE

Postby Keis » Mon May 27, 2013 9:53 am

' x has discovered y and can now modify their gear'. Sounds OK as written, but replace 'x' with a name and it becomes ungrammatical. A personal pronoun is required instead of 'their'. The program has access at this point to the necessary data (else how could it extract a name), so it should be trivial to replace 'their' with the correct 'his' or 'her'

Also my "official dev response":

"Meh" ;)

Just kidding. We do need to take a look at this soon for unannounced reasons!

If it makes you feel any better, this drives me bonkers, too. Alas, overruled! :(
