Do Dodge & Block add?

The Devs have never stated on the forums, if Dodge and Block add.

Update (Thank you Sigèé)

. . .
Think of it as a d100 roll. With 50% dodge and 30% block, the roll happens something like 1-50 = dodge, 51-80 = block, 81-100 = hit

Even if they are supposed to, do they actually work that way in the code?

Here is one experiment you could try:

Inquisitor fighting a Level 11 monster with the following:

Heavy Shield 24%
+Shield Focus rank 3 (12%)
+Dodge 20% Potion (VS Monsters only)
+Block Enchant rank 3 * 3 gear * 0.8%
+Dodge 36.8%, or higher, versus Level 11 monster (requires a Dodge rating of 780 or higher)
= 100% Dodge+ Block

If you don’t kill the Level 11 monster with your first hit, every attack by the Level 11 monster should be a Dodge or a Block.

Data
Level 11
Dodge rating 40
percentage 9.94%
OLC= 323.89
Dodge percentage = 5+ (45 * Dodge rating / (Dodge rating + 323.89))
Dodge rating 780 versus Level 11 monster = 36.8%

Why would you think dodge and block would add like that? I would expect a roll for one then a roll for the other. So, for example, at 50% each, there's a 25% chance that you get hit. Ouch!

P.S. I think this could be the first post of yours that I actually understand ;-)

Eric worked this out once and was pretty convinced they were additive. That was why he used 1H + shield in pvp on his SW and was very successful with it.

Im for the two separate rolls, it just makes the most sense. Can't Block something that is dodged right. So a shield SW in safeguard would have about 65% dodge and 37% Block. Which would result in 21-22% chance of a hit getting through

That does make sense, that might be what he meant. Was a long time ago he explained it somewhere. I remember him saying if your dodge + block + defend could be high enough, there was no chance of not either dodging or blocking an opponent (if defending).

Eric did confirm this with the DEVs. There is a thread somewhere he discusses it.

They are definitely additive. Eric explained (confirmed by devs), lets say you have 30% dodge and 15% block, there is 1 roll (say the roll is 0-100), If the value is between 0-30 then dodge, if 30-45 then block, 45-100 you are screwed.

For PvP, Eric had something like a 95% dodge or block while defending with his SW. The reason he asked was making it additive makes the tank SW much more powerful.
