I thought I would do the math on what order you should upgrade your gear for the maximum might score for your valor. I think the order might surprise a few people.
Assumptions:
- This list is based on might per valor only. It doesn't take into consideration other benefits of the item like if it is weapon or the defense. This is just for pure optimal path to the highest might based on valor spent.
- Most people recommend you upgrade your weapons first since this will help your damage, but you'll see that this is one of the worst ways to spend your valor if you want to quickly increase your might.
- This list assumes you are upgrading from the previous tier and not skipping tiers which may mess with the math. The comparison is done with the same valor tier, thus for squire I'm comparing upgrading from T4 gear to T6 gear and T1 Gems to T2 Gems. What I also found is that all valor tiers have the same order.
Order to Upgrade:
1. Helm - It’s very low valor cost with a 3x multiplier gives you the most bang for your valor!
2. Amulet and Ring - Low valor cost than the chest piece and 4x multiplier makes it the next best buys.
3. Gauntlets and Feet - Yep, with such low valor cost these are actually a bargain even if they are a 2x multiplier.
4. Legs - Due to the high cost for the 3x multiplier.
5. Chest - Yeah, finally chest. I know most people recommend you upgrade this after weapons. Yeah, it will give you the largest might gain, but it isn't worth the cost if you want to boost your might.
6. Off Hand/Shield (small) - Low cost helps it as the best weapon upgrade.
7. Cloak - High cost for a 2x multiplier...
8. Shield (large) - You pay extra for that defense!
9. Two Hand - Very high cost for a 4x multiplier, but you get a damage boost.
10. One Hand - The worse might per valor you can spend on items.
11. Gems - Yes, gems are the worst thing you can spend valor on to boost your might. I highly recommend you get your gems other ways. Since T1 and T2 gems can be purchased with silver, I would only buy T2 with squire valor if everything has been upgraded first.
Order to Use Gems:
Because of the order you may upgrade may not be the best for gem bonus you may need to move them around as you upgrade.
- If you just have the Helm upgrade you want to gem the helm first.
- Once you get the Amulet and Ring upgrade move your highest gems to the Amulet and Ring.
- Follow up with the Chest even if it isn't upgraded.
- Next would be Legs
- Cloak, gauntlets, and boots are 2x multipliers should be gemmed last.
- Weapons, again it all depends on when you upgrade them. If you hold off, upgrade the two hand weapon gems after the chest. One hand weapons should be last depending on when you upgrade them.
- At no point is it worth it to upgrade any gem before any piece of gear!
The Math:
Each tier the math works out the same. So for this example I'll just use squire valor. It also assumes you have all the same gems of the same tier, Squire gear (T6) uses T2 gems.
Equation for might is 2 x Slot Multiplier x Tier x 4(gem slots) x Gem Tier. I’m assuming you have all four gem slots open and filled.
- Helm going from T4 to T6 with T1 gems. 2x3x4x4x 1 = 96 might is the T4 helm. 2x3x6x4x1 = 144 might for the T6 helm. 144-96 give you a 48 might increase. The helm cost 187 squire valor, for a total of 0.257 might per valor.
- Compare this to the Chest, 2x4x4x4x1=128 might for T4 and 2x4x6x4x1=192 for the T6, for a 64 might increase. The chest costs 374 squire valor, for a total of 0.171 might per valor!
- Gems added to a T6 chest slot only add 32 might and at 750 squire valor it gives you a whopping 0.064 might per valor!!!!! The best value you get for gem upgrades is on T10 gear upgrading from T2 to T3 gems which gives you 80 might for 1000 soldier valor or a 0.080 might per valor ratio to give you a comparison. Compare this to upgrading the T6 one-hand to T10 gives you 128 might increase for 971 valor or a 0.132 might per valor ratio, higher than the gem ratio.
