1. Getting Started

i. Welcome to Book of Heroes

a. Getting used to your user interface

First of all welcome to book of heroes, I'm guessing you are here because you want to learn how to play the game properly, so I'll start with the basic stuff. The user interface is the term given to the system in place to help you navigate the game. Once you have created your character and entered the game you will come to a screen that contains a mugshot of your character in the top left of the screen, next to that are two long bars one of which is red and the other yellow. The red bar indicates your health and the yellow indicates your energy. In the top right of the screen there is a small cog icon, when tapped it opens up the options menu where you can alter your game settings, enter the forums, find help, and exit the game.

At the bottom of your screen you will find a bar with six different icons, The scroll and quill on the bar is the Quests icon opening the quest window will let you see which quests you have available and by clicking individual quests and reading the text you will be able to find what you are looking for. The scroll and bell is your news window, by tapping it you will be able to see the latest news on the game from the developers and also see what your friends have been up to in game (once you have added friends through The Mucky Duck Inn). The envelope icon is your mail, tap the envelope and it will open your inbox, here you can send and recieve mail from your fellow players and also collect any rewards that you may win once a raid has been completed. The blue banner is the guild icon, there you can Join a guild, create a guild and check out the guild leaderboards, once you have joined a guild the contents of the guild window will change to your guilds homepage. The trophy icon shows you the current ranks of players and guilds in game, and finally the Soldiers holding golden shields icon is the recruit a friend button, here you can invite your friends to play Book of Heroes and be reward for your recruitment.

Above the bottom bar is the chat panel, by tapping the speech bubble on the right you will open up the chat screen, here you can talk in public chats with your guild and the global community and also whisper friends, and if privileged enough you can scheme in Guild Officer Chat. Please note that if chatting in global chat you must respect the chat rules, you can find these in the top right hand corner of the chat screen.

The space in between the top and bottom bars is your main game panel, here you will find your map of the world where you can enter different areas and zones to complete quests and progress in the game. By tapping on different icons on the map you can enter different areas and by tapping the arrow in the top corner you can go back to the main map you were on before.

b. Glenfort Village

Glenfort is your base in the game, you will always need to come back to here between questing and raiding to stock up on all you need for your adventuring. The first stop you will need to make is Majerio's Shop, this is where you'll be able to buy all your equipment, gems and sigils.
Next stop is the Glenfort Temple, there you can buy health potions, damage runes, and elixirs to strengthen your stats. The temple can also heal 500 health for 100 silver coins.
The Training hall is were you will visit to spend your ability points and hero tokens, for every level that you gain in game you will receive an ability point, you can spend them on new abilities or making abilities you have already stronger, the first four points are spent for you but after completing a few quests you will be able to reset your abilities (use this function wisely as buying more reset tokens will cost you gold shields), when completing quests and competing in raids you will receive Hero Tokens, you can spend these tokens in the Training Hall in the Hero Training section on Tomes that will increase your stats and might rating.
The Mucky Duck Inn is the place where you can add friends by entering their hero codes, you will be able to find your own hero code by entering the inn and tapping add friends. You can earn hero tokens from feats by adding a certain amount of friends (you can check your feats by tapping on the picture of your character and then the blue medal at the bottom). You can find a big list of hero codes here https://www.venan.com/boh_forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=135.
The Barber shop is a lesser used feature of Glenfort Village here you can change your characters name and appearance but watch out it'll cost ya.
Finally the Workshop, this feature will unlock later on in the game around level 22, here you can craft potions and items and enchant your gear.

c. Which Class?

There are three classes to choose from Justicar, Shadow Walker, and War Mage. I will go into greater detail about how the classes work later in the guide but for now I will give a brief explanation.

Justicar. The prestigious Justicar of Roheim are an order of warriors devoted to the god of light. Imbued with spiritual energy, they are ideally suited to combating the forces of Darkness.
Mostly a physical character but can master magical spirit damage. Able to wield either a two-handed sword or axe, or a 1 handed sword with a shield.

Shadow Walkers. Shadow Walkers are fleet-footed rogues that specialise in swift strikes and evading enemy attacks. Their vast array of infiltration tools allows them to easily slow, stun, and confuse enemies.
With this class you have a choice of two major paths one being a physical fighter and the other a master of magical nature damage. The physical path is better for single target fighting although with good speed this can be overcome with some of the abilities you can earn later in the game. The magical nature side is better for attacking multiple targets with some good damage over time abilities.

War Mage. The War Mages of Elstrid are devoted to using the powers of the elements to bring order from chaos. Using both fire and ice, they can lay waste to foes large and small in short order.
Like the Shadow Walker the mage has two paths frost and fire, the Fire mage has strong fire damage very useful in certain raids, with a great damage over time factor which can stack up with every hit. The frost mage has the handy ability to constantly stun enemies by freezing them and is also faster than the fire mage.

Hybrid builds for all classes are also possible, i will talk about that later.

d. Combat

Once you enter combat the bottom bar of your user interface will change, this has now become your combat bar. You will now have 5 icons on your bottom bar.
The icon on the left will look like whatever weapon you have equipped in your main hand, by tapping this button you will perform a normal attack against the enemy you select ( select your target by tapping on them before selecting an ability).
The second icon is an arrow pointing at one enemy, these are your single target abilities by selecting that, a window will open up showing all of your single target abilities.
The third icon is two arrows pointing at three enemies, these are your multiple target abilities, here you will find all the abilities you have which can effect multiple targets.
The next button is a silhouette of a person this contains all of you potions whether they be for healing, cleansing, or boosting stats, you will find them here.
The final button is a shield and timer, this is your defence button, use this button to defend against enemy attacks when you have no other choice but to take the hit.
When in combat you will be able to check your current progress in quests by tapping the scroll and quill in the top left corner.

e.Quests, Quest Zones, Infinite Zones, Portals, Raids and Dungeons

Quest givers are marked with a yellow explanation mark, click on these zones to select and accept quests. When you have completed your quest you can collect your reward by going back to the quest giver who should now have a green tick over its icon. Areas where you need to fight to complete quests are also marked with a yellow exclamation mark.

Quest zones are marked with a scroll, quill and sword, it costs a set amount of energy for each individual zone to click and enter these zones, complete them by defeating your enemies or talking to NPCs (Non Player Characters).

Infinite zones are marked with two crossing swords and a blue infinity symbol (sideways 8), you will have to enter these zones to collect items for quests, please note that they go on forever (or until you run out of energy) so be wary you are not spending too long in one zone. Some infinite zones are marked with a skull and a red infinity symbol, these areas are Elite Zones for high level players so be careful not to go in them too early.

Portals are the little purple things you sometimes see outside of Glenfort Village, you won't be needing to enter these until later in the game, but there is were you will fight to keep the vile at bay while collecting materials for quests and crafting.

Raids are marked with a blue banner, here you can compete with guilds to defeat waves of enemies and their leaders. I will go into more detail about raids later in the guide.

Dungeons are marked with a treasure chest and sword, dungeons usually cost either 10 or 20 energy to enter, make sure you have some health potions with you when entering these, because if you die you will have to pay the full price to enter again unless you resurrect yourself with gold shields. Defeat all the enemies in a dungeon and you will receive a chest containing gem shards and other rewards

f.Energy Regeneration

While on your adventures each task you complete will drain some of your energy, you may use energy potions r gold shields to top yourself up but if not here's a neat little guide for you...

Unless you are using an elixir or enchantments to speed up your regeneration timer, it takes 5 minutes to regenerate 2 energy so this is how long it will take to fully regenerate.

Max Energy - Full Regeneration Time

50 Energy - 2hr 5m
46 Energy - 1hr 55m
44 Energy - 1hr 50m
42 Energy - 1hr 45m
40 Energy - 1hr 40m
36 Energy - 1hr 30m
32 Energy - 1hr 20m
26 Energy - 1hr 5m
22 Energy - 55m
18 Energy - 45m
16 Energy - 40m
14 Energy - 35m
12 Energy - 30m

ii. Guilds

a. Joining and leaving a guild

There are lots of benefits to being part of a guild and its easy to join one, just tap on the blue banner at the bottom of your main screen and then tap "join guild" a list of recruiting guilds will appear and you can choose which one you like best, don't worry if you don't like the guild you can always leave and join another one by tapping the guild banner, hitting manage, then scrolling to the bottom and pressing "leave guild", be aware that if you leave a guild any loyalty points you have earned with that guild will be cut in half if you join another guild.

b. Raiding with a guild

When your guild starts a raid you will be alerted with a push notification (if you have them turned on), if you are already in game an alert will appear on your screen telling you your guild has started a raid, if you have enough might to enter the raid, go to its location and enter the raid zone, most raids cost 2 energy per hit but it varys a lot when you begin to take on higher level raids.

c. Guild ranks

Here is a list of guild ranks and what they can do.

Guild Master:
Disband Guild, Change Guild Name, Edit guild information, Promote others to member, veteran, officer and guild master(therefore demoting him/herself to officer), demote them, kick people from guild, start and cancel raids.

Officer:
Edit guild information, promote others to member, and veteran, demote them, kick people from guild, start and cancel raids.

Veteran:
Can start and cancel raids.

Member and Recruit:
These ranks have no special privileges.

d. Guild Perks and Loyalty

Guild Loyalty:

You receive guild loyalty by raiding with your guild and collecting items for guild challenges, there are 5 levels of guild loyalty. The first level gives you 5% bonus valor from guild raids, the second unlocks guild perks (which i will talk about in a minute), the third unlocks another 5% bonus valour, and the fourth and fifth each give you an extra 4+ to your maximum energy. Remember if you leave a guild to join another guild the loyalty points you have earned will be cut in half.

Guild Perks:
When your guild completes challenges together by collecting items to build buildings and repair them, you will be awarded with different stat bonuses, although you must have level two guild loyalty to be able to receive them.

iii. Ranks and Leaderboards

The ranks and leader boards are a great way of keeping track of the best players and guilds in the game overall and that current week.

a. Hero Score

Hero score is earned by killing enemies, since recent changes in the game you can no longer receive hero score from killing creatures that are grey to you (i.e. Creatures that are 3 levels below your level). You also receive Hero Score when completing some quests and achieving feats, although the Hero Score from feats does not contribute to your Hero Score standings on the leader board. The Hero Score leader boards show you weekly and overall leader boards in the game.

b. Might Rating

Might is determined by the level of your gear and gems you have, also enchantments and training tomes contribute to this rating, there is one leader board for this and it is the Overall Might Rating leader board, by checking this you can keep an eye on the strongest players in the game. I will go more into might in the next section of the guide.

c. Guild Power Weekly

Every week guilds fight it out to be the top guild in their category, guilds earn power from completing raids, each raid is from a certain tier and each tier has its own weekly leader board. The four different tiers are Squire, Soldier, Knight and Captain. You can check these leader boards to see which guilds are doing the best in each tier.

d Power

You can find the overall power and prestige leader boards in the guild tab, The power leader board is for every guild that competes in raids, each guild has a rank based on its current power score, power is earned from completing raids and this score will go down over time if your guild does not keep raiding.

e. Prestige

The prestige leader board shows guilds how have completed challenges and raids, prestige is earned mainly through complete guild challenges but can also be earned in smaller doses by completing raids.

f. PvP***NEW***

There are two PvP Leaderboards, the first one is the 'PvP Score' Leaderboard. PvP score is awarded for winning matches in PvP and the Leaderboard shows the players with the highest score. The second is the 'PvP Performance' Leader board. Your PvP performance score is based on your win:lose ratio. Simply put - If you win a lot more than you lose you will have a high PvP Performance score.

iv. Quest Guides

a. Ironhaven Shards : Eldritch Symbols

Instead of writing a whole new guide for this I'm just going to link to my fellow mod Mya's great guide on this chain of quests….

EJ_Mya's Shards of Ironhaven Guide

https://www.venan.com/boh_forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2191

b. Unlocking The Undrian Plateau

At around level 25 after completing the quests in Felmarsh, you will start receiving quests telling you to go back to old areas and kill low level enemies until an elite appears. These quests will unlock Elite Zones in areas such as Glenfort Plains (Dunia's Meadow), Ebian Forest (Heart of the Ebian), Cursed Quarry (Energy Mine), and Urgresh Mountains (Shadow Canyon), follow the quests in these areas and you will eventually begun the chain of quests to unlock the plateau.

Once the Elite Zone quests are out of the way, complete 'What The Flux', 'Who Gives A Flux', 'Morbid Analysis', 'Shoot The Messenger' and then all three of the 'Old Wounds' quests, once you have completed the last 'Old Wounds' quests the Plateau will unlock for you :)

In the quest 'Who Gives A Flux' you need to collect 3 of each colour flux. The fluxes can be found in Incursion portals that appear around Glenfort every 90 minutes. There are 3 different coloured portals; Emerald, Indigo and Amber. You can find all 3 different coloured fluxes in any portal but you are more likely to find a certain colour flux in its relating portal (i.e Amber fluxes are more likely to drop in Amber portals). The drop rate of fluxes also increases the more incursion levels you complete (I believe it is 12 waves per incursion level, each wave costing 2 energy) but the enemies you fight become a lot stronger.

The flux quests are a lot easier now that it has been reduced to 3 of each colour flux instead of 5, but still takes a lot of time farming those portals, but remember you can buy 5 of each flux from the black market on wednesday and saturday for gold shields if you prefer to buy your way out of a tedious quest.

Morbid Analysis is the one that kills me now, need to kill 100 vile, so its back into the portals to spend around 70 - 80 energy on killing vile, the tough bit about this quest is that if you try to get it all in one portal then you will hit the final incursion level which can be tough for players that haven't got there might up very far yet, so might be easier for weaker players to just complete the first couple levels of a few different portals (this method is more time consuming, but a lot easier on the health pots and without the fear of death).

'Shoot the messenger' and all three of the 'Old Wounds' quests cost 10 energy each and are all 5 wave dungeons, fairly straight forward and gives you a nice little back story of what the vile gate is and what lies beyond it.

Once you have completed the final 'Old Wounds' quest you are free to enter The Undrian Plataeu and complete your first quest 'Over the Undrian'

c. Unlocking The Shattered Plains

To Unlock the Shattered Plains you must have already started the flux quests to unlock The Undrian Plateau. You will receive a quest to collect 10 Golden Lockboxes in Dunia's Meadow, Glenfort Plains. Follow this quest chain to unlock the Shattered Plains, which is located inside Glenfort village in the bottom left.

d. Vile Gate Item Locations***NEW***

Once you have completed the chain of quests that takes you through The Undrian Plateau, you will come to quests called Vile Gate I , II, III… The following list are the items you require for these quests and the locations you can find them…

Alpha Paw - Glenfort Plains (Dunia's Meadow)
Unstable Ether - Lake NIthus (Ancestral Nithus)
Grizzly Tooth - Ebain Forest (Heart of the Ebian)
Cave Serpent Venom - Cursed Quarry (Energy Mine)
Black Wyvern Scale - Urgresh Mountains (Canyon of Shadow)
Iron Basilisk Eye - Dragonmoor (Flame Cavern)

v. PvP Beta

a. What does PvP Beta mean? ***NEW***

As of today (Monday22nd July 2013) Update 1.7 will be live to play. With this update Venan has opened up a PvP Beta. PvP means Player vs Player so you will be able to battle against fellow players. Beta means that the new PvP part of the game will be in a constant state of change so the developers can balance the game as needed.

b. How to PvP ***NEW***

When the update is downloaded, a chain of quests will open up introducing you to PvP, you will be able to compete in pvp once you are level 10. The quests will appear at Glenfort Collisseum where you will be able to fight one on one with another player around the same might level as you. Health in PvP is currently multiplied by 4 to make the battles a little lengthier.

When you enter into PvP through the Glenfort coliseum, you will be put into a match making system that will do its best to match you up with someone who has a similar level might to your own. Please be aware that the system can only match you up with other players that are queuing as well, so you may occasionally be matched up with someone who is not close to your level at all (either much higher or much lower).

Once you have entered pvp and been matched up with another player, you will try to defeat each other by using your abilities only, as runes, health potions, and other consumables are not usable in pvp. Remember to use your abilities wisely and always be aware of your enemies timer, and try your best to judge which ability would be best to use, you have a set time to make your choice, if you do not pick an ability you will automatically perform a normal attack when the timer runs out, don't forget you have the ability to defend against attacks, that extra boost of defense can be vital in a tough match when you have more of chance to dodge or block an incoming attack.

2. Spending your currency and getting your might up!

i. How to spend

This is what I go by when I play the game and it has always worked out well for me, if I'm wrong someone please tell me and i will amend this section.

a. Silver Coins:

At the very start of the game spend your silver coins on equipment starting with weapons chest armour, leg armour, then hands, feet, head, and cloak. Once you have a basic set of gear and are ready to raid, you should buy the first sigil which can be found in majerios shop under "special" sigils will boost your maximum energy. After that your silver spending should solely focus on gems and gem slots, you will find these in you character menu when you tap your characters portrait. Unlock every single gem slot and fill them with the appropriate gems for your class, you can buy gems in majerios shop for 2.5k silver and 25k silver (i will supply a full list of gems later in the guide) once all your gem slots are unlocked and filled you can either spend your silver on material for enchanting and crafting or on lockboxes from majerios shop, alchemy lockboxes are a great way to get that extra bit of valor needed for a piece of equipment.

b. Gold Shields:

Gold shield are the much sought after currency, you can get these from completing some quests in the game, downloading free apps in the "free gold shields" section, you can buy them through in app purchase and you can occasionally pick them up along your adventures. Gold Shields can be used for many things, Gems, Equipment, Energy Potions, Ellixirs and also to top up your energy, but the first thing you need to buy are the sigils, there are three of them that you can purchase with gold shields that will increase your maximum energy, should first of all save up and buy all three of these sigils. I will not go into how else to spend your gold shields at this time, it varies greatly deepening on how you want to play the game.

c. Valor:

You earn valour from completing raids, and there are four different types, Squires Valor, Soldiers Valor, Knights Valor and Captains Valor. The same as silver coins and gold shields the first thing you want to buy are the sigils, each valor tier has its own sigil and you should save up and get these first. After that valour should be spent on equipment first and then gems, buy your equipment in this order:- 2-Hand Weapon/Chest Armor, Necklace/Ring, 1-Hand Weapons/Shields, Head Armor, Leg Armor, Gloves/Shoes. and then fill the gems slots with better gems in the same order (I will explain why in the next section)

ii. Sigils List

All of these can be bought at Majerio's Shop in Glenfort Village under the Special Items Section.

Sigil - Cost - +Max Energy

Sigil of Vigor - 5,000 Silver - +2 Max Energy
Hero's Sigil - 10 Gold Shields - +2 Max Energy
Squire's Sigil - 300 Squires Valor - +2 Max Energy
Sigil of Vitality - 70 Gold Shields - +4 Max Energy
Soldier's Sigil - 300 Soldiers Valor - +4 Max Energy
Knights Sigil - 1,200 Knights Valor - +6 Max Energy
Sigil of Endless Zeal - 180 Gold Shields - +10 Max Energy

iii. Might, Gear Stats and Gem Slots Guide

This is where it gets a little bit complicated. Gear stats and Might are based on this formula:

(Item Tier)x(Bonus on Gem)x(Slot Bonus)

Example: If you had a Tier 5 helm with a +2 Melee gem, it would be 5x2x3=+30 Melee.

The Slot Bonuses are as follows:

Chest, 2h Weapon, Ring, Amulet  x4
Head, Legs  x3
Back, Wrist, Feet, Main Hand, Off-hand x2

This means that if you move a gem around, you can raise or lower your stats! If you take the same equipment as listed in the example above, and move the gem into your boots, you would get:

(Tier 5 Boots)x(+2 Melee Gem)x(Slot Bonus +2) = 5x2x2 = +20 Melee

If you move that same gem into your chest, you would get:

(Tier 5 Chest)x(+2 Melee Gem)x(Slot Bonus +4) = 5x2x4 = +40 Melee

iv. Karnak's Ring Guide

Once you have completed Majerios quest in the Shattered Plane and you have defeated Karnak in his dungeon for the first time. You will be rewarded with a 'Broken Ring' and the recipe 'Empower: Karnak's Ring'. This recipe will allow you to craft a Tier 15 ring (The highest level item in the game to date) which can give up to 600 might and stat per gem and 2400 might in total if using all Tier 5 Gems in the slots, but be well warned the time needed to get all the materials you need can be staggering.

Materials Needed

Broken Ring -

Obtained from first Karnak Dungeon

5x Prismatic Flux - (25x Amber Flux, 25x Indigo Flux, 25x Emerald Flux)

It takes 5 of each flux to create 1 prismatic flux, and it takes 24 hours to craft 1 prismatic flux. HEre is where you can find these items...

Amber Flux - Vile Incursion Portals (plus VG Dungeon, VG Raid & Karnak Raid)
Emerald Flux - Vile Incursion Portals (plus VG Dungeon, VG Raid & Karnak Raid)
Indigo Flux - Vile Incursion Portals (plus VG Dungeon, VG Raid & Karnak Raid)

Note: Fluxes are more likely to drop in the same colour portal (ie. Amber flux in and amber portal)

5x Prismatic Gem - (500x Tier 4 Red Shards, 500x Tier 4 Yellow Shards, 500x Tier 4 Blue Shards

It takes 500 of each colour shard to create 1 prismatic gem, and it takes 12 hours to craft 1 prismatic gem. Here is where you can find these items...

The Emperor's Court ( Level 24-25 )
Cost: 10 Energy
Location: Fellmarsh
Gem Shard: Tier 4 Blue Shards

Hall of the Goblin King ( Level 26-28 )
Cost: 20 Energy
Location: The Undrian Plateau
Gem Shard: Tier 4 Red Shards

The Vile Gate ( Level 27-30 )
Cost: 20 Energy
Location: The Undrian Plateau
Gem Shard: Tier 4 Yellow Shards

Karnaks Temple( Level 27-30 )
Cost: 20 Energy
Location: Glenfort Village, Shattered Plane
Gem Shard: 2x Tier 4 Random Colour Shard

Once you have collected all 5 of the Prismatic Gems and Fluxes you can craft Karnak's Ring in the workshop which takes 72 hours.

Enjoy your new ring :)

ii. Class Guides

Note: Your build is basically how you spend your ability points, you gain 1 ability point per level and finish with 30 points to spend over 16 Abilities with each ability using a maximum of 3 ability points. The numbers shown in the 4x4 grids in the following guides relate to the where the ability points have been spent.

a. Shadow Walker Stats, Builds and Rotations

a. Reimi's Poison Shadow Walker Build and Optmisation Guide

Build:
3-1-1-0
0-3-1-3
0-3-0-3
3-3-3-3

Rune Usage:

For all raids other than Vile Gate and Karnak use minor blight runes at 2-3 stacks of poison on target(s)

Vile Gate and Karnak use spirit runes at start of fight and minor blight runes after rune cooldown(doesnt happen often).

Gear priority

The priority only applies if you have the enchant formulas to enchant your gear otherwise stick with the biggest might increases

MH weapon
Helmet
Gloves
Neck
Ring
Cloak
OH weapon
Legs
Chest
Boots

Enchanting
MH weapon helmet gloves
(1h dmg chant drops from LoB)
Ammy Ring Cloak
(nature dmg from karnak)
Chest Legs Boots
(status resist from quest reward)

Stat Weights

Note: Stat weights are designed to increase maximum damage not might.
Also as your playing the build you should be able to tell what you need as far as stats go, the weights are guidelines only if you feel you need more crit, get more crit.

I have 5 attacks in my rotation, 3 of which are poison so 3:1 for magic haste and crit directly effect damage so they are scaled higher in priority. I have 1 melee attack that i rarely use (caltrops) so 1:5 crit power and dodge directly effect damage and speed due to riposte but at a signifigantly less rate. Crit power only happens on a crit so its a double passive stat and riposte requires a dodge which also makes it a double passive.
Note: A double passive is something that requires another action before it triggers.

Melee 1:5
Magic 3:1 as needed (see above)
Resistances 1:3
Haste 2:1
Crit 2:1
Crit pwr 1:1
Dodge 1:1

Playstyle and Rotation
Non-VG/Karnak

Multiple Targets:

Acid Spray, Poison Cloud, Minor Blight Rune, Caltrops(if needed to hit the 1 second), Smoke bomb, Repeat(hardly needed).

Single Target

Poison blade, Acid spray, Ensnare, Poison Blade, Smoke Bomb, Poison Blade, Minor Blight Rune if needed.

VG/Karnak
Same as above but using Minor Spirit Runes Before the Rotation starts

This playstyle is best used with runes on every fight

Elixirs/Potions
Elixir of speed
Elixir of power
Potion of speed
Potion of power

Gems used in this spec
Red= magic
Yellow=haste
Blue= critpwr
4th slot alternate between magic/haste

b. Haggis's Melee Shadow Walker Build and Rotations

Build:

0-3-1-3
3-0-3-3
3-0-3-3
2-0-3-0

Gearing Priority: (For damage not might)

Main Hand Weapon
Off Hand Weapon
Ring
Amulet
Chest
Head
Legs
Cloak
Boots
Gloves

Gems:

Red: Melee
Yellow: Haste / Crit (Once Haste is 35%)
Blue: Crit Power
White: MIxed Melee/Haste

Enchants:

1 Hand Damage (LoB/Black Market)
Physical Damage
Status Resist

Rotations:

As is the style of the Melee Shadow Walker it is all single target attacks (except caltrops) but using reposte and urgency the speed of these attacks makes up for the lack of multi target effects.

Single Target
Piercing Strike > Normal Attack (Repeat)
Easiest rotation ever although its not always that simple, if the enemy is tough then Ensnare, Caltrops and Smoke Bomb are used to slow and stun.

Multiple Target
Caltrops > Piercing Strike > Smoke Bomb (if needed to knock back timers) > Normal Attack (Repeat)
Simple again, and the same as single target rotation, ensnare can be used to stun characters but be careful as Assasinate may sometimes break your stun by hitting a random enemy. Reflective strike is used between abilities to quickly finish of any enemies with a small amount of health left.

b. War Mage Stats, Builds and Rotations

a. Slinkylynx's Frost Mage Guide

I originally made her a fire mage but switched to ice and much prefer it over fire - more fun, more control (with the stun) and faster.

Build:
At level 30, I have put 3 skill points into each of the following:
- Flaming Pyre (my only fire spell)
- Frozen Shard
- Inner Focus
- Icy Grasp
- Ice Storm
- Deep Freeze
- Ice Lance
- Ice Mastery
- Snap Cast
- Ice Shield

Single Target Rotation:
Frozen Shard -> Icy Grasp -> Ice Lance and repeat

If Snap Cast should come up, this changes things a bit. I generally cast Flaming Pyre at this point as it is an otherwise long spell to cast and using it in Snap Cast situations means it doesn't interfere with the rest of the spell rotation.

Multiple Target Rotation:
Ice Storm -> Icy Grasp (on enemy most likely to stun or disarm me) -> Flaming Pyre -> Ice Storm

b. Haggis's Fire and Ice Hybrid Mage Guide (Master of both elements)

I decided a while back that I would level 2 mages at the same time one focused on fire and one focused on ice. I found that both elemental paths have their benefits (especially in raids such as cursed keep and vale of the ice dragon), so now that both my mages are level 30 and raiding consistently at knights valor level I've created my own two hybrid builds, one focused on fire and the other ice, but both builds master fire and ice so that they are never truly weak when fighting against their opposing elements (Ice is strong against fire, fire is strong against ice, fire is weak against fire, and ice is weak against ice). For quite a while i was dead set on each character only focusing on their own element, but found the hybrid spec extremely useful for both.

Please Note: Both of these builds are only beneficial when fighting Vallus and Cursed Keep regualry.

Fire Mage Hybrid

Build:

Incinerate - 3
Flaming Pyre - 3
Inner Focus - 3
Icy Grasp - 1
Ice Storm - 3
Ignite - 1
Time Void - 1
Ice Lance - 3
Fire Mastery - 3
Ice Mastery - 3
Fire Blast - 3
Snap Cast - 3

Brief explanation: Mastering both elements increases damage from all abilities most importantly the multiple target attacks like ice storm and flaming pyre, so having 3 points in both abilities and both masteries, your multi target damage will be at its highest. 1 point in Icy Grasp and 1 in Time Void gives me my stun and interrupt incase fighting against tough enemies, and also the main two single target abilities Incinerate and Ice lance are maxxed out so I have a full mastered single target attack in both fire and ice (extremley helpful in CK as a fire mage). Inner Focus is a must to raise your magic rating and snap cast is great for that extra instant hit you can get. Even though I'm focused fire I only took the 1 point in Ignite as I felt that most the time the fight is usually over before burn starts making any difference (I'm sure i will change this later in the game)

Gearing Priority:

Staff
Chest
Ring
Amulet
Head
Legs
Cloak
Boots
Gloves

Gems:

Red: Magic
Yellow: Crit
Blue: Crit Power
White: MIxed Magic/Haste

Rotations:

Single Target

Incinerate >Icy Grasp > Flaming Pyre > Fire Blast > Time Void (If needed) > Incinerate >

Against Guardian Dragon

Ice Lance > Icy Grasp > Ice Storm > Ice Lance > Incinerate

Multiple Target

Ice Storm > Flaming Pyre > Ice Storm > Time Void > Flaming Pyre > Ice Storm

Frost Mage Hybrid (Jeburrus)

Build:

Incinerate - 3
Flaming Pyre - 3
Frozen Shard - 3
Inner Focus - 3
Icy Grasp - 1
Ice Storm - 3
Deep Freeze - 1
Time Void - 1
Ice Lance - 3
Fire Mastery - 3
Ice Mastery - 3
Snap Cast - 3

Similar to the fire mage set up although obviously with the extra ice abilities instead of fire (i.e Fire Blast (3) and Ignite (1) swapped for Frozen Shard (3) and Deep Freeze(1))

Gearing Priority:

Staff
Chest
Ring
Amulet
Head
Legs
Cloak
Boots
Gloves

Gems:

Red: Magic
Yellow: Crit
Blue: Crit Power
White: MIxed Magic/Haste

Rotations:

Single Target

Ice Lance > Frozen Shard> Icy Grasp > Ice Storm > Ice Lance > Frozen Shard> Time Void > Ice Storm >

Against Vallus

Incinerate > Icy Grasp > Flaming Pyre > Ice Lance > Incinerate >

Multiple Target

Ice Storm > Flaming Pyre > Ice Storm > Time Void > Flaming Pyre > Ice Storm

Against Vallus' Army

Flaming Pyre > Ice Storm > Time Void > Flaming Pyre > Ice Storm

Sometimes starting with a Minor Fire Rune.

c. DaK's Fire Mage Build and Rotation***NEW***Build:

Cast times are all based upon my current haste with eliixer.

Passive skills:
Inner focus 3
ignite 3
fire mastery 3
Volitility 3
Snap Cast 2

Single Target Spells:
Incinerate 3 (.58)
Icy Grasp 3 (.17)
Ice lance 1 (.58)
Fire Blast 3 (.29)

Multi Target (AOE) spells
Flaming Pyre 2 (.71)
Ice Storm 2 (.57)
Time Void 2 (.11)

Notes:
Main focus of this build is Karnak raid, and this is a high might build.
AOE spells are only level 2 because even with the decreased damage I have no issue defeating most if not all mobs.

Icy Grasp is level 3 so that the cast time and cooldown times are both decreased drastically.

With my current haste and the elixer of speed giving me a total of 56.69 haste I cast incinerate, fire blast, icy grasp, and then ice lance. If burned by the initial incinerate the burn hits exactly .04 seconds prior to the end of the cast time of ice lance.

Changes that can be made depending on preference would be the changing of any of the following, but I do not recommend taking any skills out (with the exception of snap cast, since they changed it with the last update I am not so thrilled with it)
Icy Grasp, Snap Cast, increase level of flaming pyre or ice storm, and Time void.

c. Justicar Stats, Builds and Rotations

a. Reimi's Melee Justicar Build and Optimisation Guide (Non-Onslaught)

Build:

3-3-1-3
0-3-2-0
0-3-3-0
3-3-3-0

Gearing priority:

(For maximum damage.)
2h weapon
Helm
Gloves
Amulet
Ring
Cloak
Chest
Legs
Boots

(For maximum might increase)
2h weapon
Amulet
Ring
Chest
Helm
Legs
Boots
Gloves
Cloak

Gems for this spec:
Red = melee
Yellow = haste until 40% unbuffed with guild favors then crit
Blue = crit power

Enchants:
2h weapon, helm, gloves.
2h weapon damage
(Drops from LoB or purchased in black market)
Amulet ring cloak
Physical damage
(Drops from karnak or purchased in black market)
Boots legs chest
Defence
(Drop unknown)
Or status resist until you have defence
(Quest reward)

Rotations:

For Multiple Targets:
Heroic will, cleave, seismic, if that doesn't kill use radiant light, if that doesnt kill you are stuck using single target attacks(rarely happens)

For Single Target:
Heroic will, Brutal Strike, Seismic Slash, Wound, Brutal Strike,Wound,Brutal Strike

Stat weights:
These are based on the amount of moves that i use that the stat boosts(obviously haste and crit apply to all but they are less than melee as these weights are designed to increase max damage)

Melee 4:1
Magic 1:6
Resistances 1:3
Dodge 1:3
Haste 3:1
Crit 2:1
Critpower 1:2

Play style:

This spec is designed for 14k+ might.

Normally a cleave will one shot any non boss (same for brutal for non-boss single target)

For this spec i don't use runes(if you feel your not killing fast enough add spirit runes into the start of your rotation)

This build is not designed for onslaught, it will work but not as well as a fine tuned onslaught build

Re: Book of Heroes for Dummies (Complete Guide) (Post 1.6)

Let me start with a good job. Now heres my concern and ive seen then done alot people will concern themselves more with might than properly equipping their toons i.e. put a t4 health gem in just cuz they happened toget it from a lockbox and want might so they can hit a cv raid.. Etc... So while might is important it may not always be best.

So i suggest adding a section devoted to optimizing you character, for instance on a justicar your biggest upgrade is gonna be your weapon now if you have the recipe to enchant for 2h dmg following your weapon get your helmet and gloves an start chanting those up will be your biggest boost, follow that by getting neck amy cloak and chant those with physical dmg boost (or spirit boost depending on spec) will yield a better outcome than just oh ima grab this piece because its the most might

Just my thoughts on the matter (more of an advanced guide type thing) but would still be useful information to the new players

Thanks Reimi,

I was going to go into more detail about optimizing different classes when I finished writing up the sections on characters and builds, just getting all the basic stuff on to the guide and out of way so I can work on the more detailed and advanced end of the guide. Will definitely use some of your info in the next update to the guide. Any information that you may that you think will benefit other players would be greatly received and you would be credited and and referenced for all your input!

Thanks for taking an interest.

Hi Jebus, great work here.

Just a point to note...

Thr Goblin King has 4 phases instead of 3, anf The Vile Gate has 3 instead of 4.

Keep it up! I love this guide. ;)
