v1.4.2 Book of Heroes
Elevator Pitches by Topic (Grossly Oversimplified Advice by Topic):
1) A Higher Might Rating gets your character into better Raids.

2) In v1.4.2, until you reach 10,250 Might Rating, spend your Hero Tokens evenly between all 8 Stat Tomes/ Hero Training

3) Save currency for Sigils. When you have enough currency (for whichever Sigil you're purchasing next), wait until you have 0 energy to purchase that Sigil, since it will refill your Energy Bar.

4) For free ($0 IAP) characters, when you get more Silver Coin, buy more/better Augment Gems and more/better Tier Items. When you get Soldier Valor, first buy the Soldier's Sigil, then all Tier 10 items, then all Tier 3 Gems. When you get Knight Valor buy Knight's Sigil, then all Tier 11 items then all Tier 4 Gems.

5) If you have a Level 25 character, and a Level 10 character, strongly consider buying a Tier 9 Armor Bundle (20% off) and a Tier 9 Weapon for the Level 10 character.

6) If you spend Gold Shields on anything except Sigils (larger Energy Bar), *and* you cannot get into some of your Guild's frequently scheduled Raids, *then* consider buying a few Tier 3 Gems to get into your Guild's higher Raids. When you get Knight Valor buy Knight's Sigil then all Tier 11 Items then all Tier 4 Gems.

7) Still Fact Checking this one

8) If you buy less than 310 Gold Shields (approx. $25 USD), or spend less than $10 USD per month on currency, consider the Free Gold Shield offers. If you are a free ($0 IAP) character, very strongly consider the Free Gold Shields offers. These Gold Shields can be used to buy Sigils.

9) Higher Might Rating improves your Real World Kills Per Minutes. Higher Might Rating reduces the amount of Temple Healing and Potions you need.

Everything else is complicated.

"Raids & Might, confused yet?" Part 2

Postby Bj_Knows » Sun Oct 21, 2012 7:19 pm

v1.4.2 Book of Heroes
Quick Reference by Topic (Simplified Advice by Topic):
1) Higher Might Rating gets you into better Raids. Better Raids pay more Valor per Real World Time and more Valor per BoH Energy. The two rarest resources in Book of Heroes are Real World Time spent in a Raid and BoH Energy spent in a Raid (not necessarily in that order).
The final goal of your Guild (and thus your character), is to be able to run "War of Fellmarsh" frequently, without spending a lot of Gold Shields or depriving the membership of sleep.
Your Guild's Raid schedule should help the majority of its members increase in Might Rating, so they can take on better Raids. Tier 10 items, Tier 11 items and Tier 4 Gems cannot be purchased with Gold Shields, but must be earned in Raids or won in Alchemist Lockbox. However, a Guild's Raid schedule should not be so grueling its members would rather work at their Real World Jobs. Book of Heroes should be fun. Your Guild should be the *most* fun part of the game.
Reminder: The above is a simplification. It does not touch on all issues such as Onslaught Raids (multiple Encounters per 4 Energy), Mercing, Number of Characters in a Raid, and a gazillion other considerations.

2)
If you Raid in BoH (Hero Tokens):
In v1.4.2, until you reach 10,250 Might Rating, spend your Hero Tokens evenly between all 8 Stat Tomes/Hero Training. Spreading them evenly gets you the most Might per Hero Token. 10,250 Might Rating gets you into "War of Fellmarsh" (see above). [Typist's Note: Once you're into WoF? Go nuts! Spend your tokens however you want! BUY A SQUIRREL WITH THEM! Well, maybe not a squirrel. Or you could hoard them… nah. I mean, it's not like there's an update coming someday or anything. ;-)]

2)
If you Solo Adventure in BoH (Hero Tokens):
In v1.4.2, you have two options A) spread Hero Tokens evenly for maximum might (see above) or B) Focus them on 1-3 Stats.
With the current emphasis on Damage Per Second (Magic/ Melee, Crit, Crit Power and Haste or MMCCpH), If you chose option B) then I would recommend focusing on Magic, Melee and Crit for attack. Alternatively, if you chose option B), you can focus your Augment Gems on MMCCpH and your Tomes/ Hero Training on Physical Resist, Magic Resist, and Dodge.
(You can skip this paragraph) Researcher's Note: You can increase each Stat 99 times for +792 Stat (+8*99). This starts off at 10 Hero Tokens for +8 and finishes at 500 Hero Tokens for +8, a total of 25,245 Hero Tokens to max out one Tome. Spread evenly among all 8 Stats, the same 25,245 Hero Tokens give you +272 to all Stats (+8*34, 10 HT for +8 to 175 HT for +8). Spent in one Tome you get +792 Might Rating, spread out evenly you get +2,176 Might Rating or *2.75 Might Rating for the same Hero Tokens.
[Typist's Note: I actually spend mine to counter the areas I concentrate with gems - Magic, Melee & Crit Power. I would have NO Dodge whatsoever if I didn't have a lot of tokens in Dodge. It's nice not getting constantly whacked by critters. Or squirrels, but that's not really relevant.]

3)
If you Raid in BoH (Sigils):
Save currency for Sigils. When you have enough currency to buy the next Sigil you need, wait until you have 0 energy to purchase that Sigil, since it will refill your Energy Bar. If you are a Raider, wait until you are 0 energy in a Raid then purchase it during the highest Raid you can get into, or your Guild's highest scheduled Raid within 48 hours, whichever comes first.
Rationale: Using the Energy Bar refill during your highest Raid gets you the most Valor and Hero Tokens (without spending Gold Shields). But the longer you wait, the more regenerated energy you are missing [Typist's note: (i.e., you could've had all that extra Sigil energy already!)], so buy the Sigil within 48 hours of having enough currency to do so. Since it takes 5 minutes to regenerate 2 energy, and Raids have limited window of time (2-4 hours), increasing your Energy Bar should be the first priority for your currency.
Reminder: The above is a simplification. It does not touch on all issues such as buying Tier 9 items, Burning to save a Raid, Burning to get first place and a gazillion other considerations. [Typist's Note: Do not burn squirrels.]

3)
If you Solo Adventure in BoH (Sigils):
Save currency for Sigils. When you have enough currency to buy the next Sigil you need, wait until you have 0 energy to purchase that Sigil, since it will refill your Energy Bar. It takes 5 minutes to regenerate 2 energy, but your character takes less than 5 minutes to spend 2 energy. Even with "Dungeon Banking" (see BoH Forum), increasing your energy should be your first priority. Exception: Free ($0 IAP) characters may want to skip the Sigil of Vitality (70 Gold Shields) and the Sigil of Endless Zeal (180 Gold Shields). If you have 2- 5 characters on your Venan ID, it can be difficult to drain all your Solo Adventuring characters of energy. If you have 5 characters, and use "Dungeon Banking", every 1 minute you are regenerating 2 energy (or 10 energy per 5 minutes).

4a)
For free ($0 IAP) characters, the simplest strategy is:
Put your highest Tier Gems in Necklace, Ring, and Torso (*4 Location Bonus). Put your next highest Tier Gems in your 2-Handed Weapon (*4 Location Bonus, skip if no 2-Handed Weapon). Put your next highest Tier Gems in your Helm and Leggings (*3 Location Bonus). Later, this is the order you should unlock Gem Slot D (white).
Get your Sigil of Vigor (Silver Coin).
Get your Squire's Sigil.
If you get 10 Gold Shields from encounter drops, get your Hero's Sigil.
Unlock all colored Gem Slots (Gem Slots B & C. see Location Bonus advice above for order).
If Level 21, get all Tier 8 items.
Get thirty Tier 2 Gems (or better if Dungeon Boss drops a Tier 3 Gem).
Unlock a Gem Slot D (white) and fill with a Tier 2 Gem (or better if Dungeon Boss drops a Tier 3 Gem) until all ten Gem Slots D (white) are full. (See Location Bonus advice above for order).
Get your Soldier's Sigil.
Get all Tier 10 items (Buy with Soldier Valor. See advice below for buying order).
Get all Tier 3 Gems.
Get your Knight's Sigil.
Get all Tier 11 items (Knight Valor see below advice for buying order).
Get all Tier 4 Gems.
Reminder: The above is a simplification. It does not touch on all issues such as characters with more than one Tier of Items (Ex: Tier 8 items & Tier 10 items mixed), Squire Valor, Haste vs. Crit, Magic vs. Melee, and a gazillion other considerations.

4b)
Tier 10 item & Tier 11 item Buying Order:
Helm
Amulet
Ring
Boots
Gauntlets
Leggings
Shield (if equipped)
Dagger (if equipped)
Chest Armor
Cloak
Weapon
Augment Gems (Tier 3 with Gold Shields/ Soldier Valor and Tier 4 with Knight Valor)
(You can skip this paragraph) Researcher's Note: At 9550 Might Rating, in a regular Raid (2 energy per Encounter), a Tier 8 Weapon gets as many Kills Per Minute as a Tier 11 Weapon since the rest of your gear is Tier 10 or Tier 11, your Gems are Tier 3 and you have a bunch of Hero Tokens. Replacing a Tier 8 Weapon with a Tier 10 Weapon (or a Tier 10 Weapon with a Tier 11 Weapon) does not significantly raise your regular Raid Kills Per Minute. Magic/ Melee, Crit, Crit Power, and Haste (MMCCpH) have much more impact on your Average Damage Per Second. Since Weapons have almost the worst "Might Increase to Valor Spent Ratio", they should be the last Tier item purchased. For simplification, purchase your Weapon with Valor after all other Tier Items, but *before* any Gems.

5)
If you have a Level 25 character, and a Level 10 character, you like playing the game. A Tier 8 Weapon, and Tier 8 Armor, is designed for Fellmarsh, and Level 25 characters. A Tier 9 Weapon and Tier 9 Armor have better damage and a better Armor Rating than Tier 8. A Tier 9 Armor Bundle gives you a 20% discount. If you are going to spend Gold Shields on a Tier 9 Weapon and Tier 9 Armor Bundle, you should get it as early as possible, for maximum enjoyment.

6)
If you spend Gold Shields on anything (except for Sigils) *and* your Guild frequently runs Raids you cannot get into due to low Might Rating *then* buy Tier 3 Gems for your Amulet until you have enough Might Rating to get into your Guild's highest Raid. If your Might Rating is still not high enough, repeat for Ring, Torso, 2-Handed Weapon (if so equipped), Helm and Leggings (approx. $40- 48 USD). If still not enough, or out of money, strongly consider Mercing. If you don't wish to Merc, fill remaining Gem Slots with Tier 3 Gems (total so far approx. $72- 80 USD). Rationale: Characters Burning (converting Gold Shields to Energy) in the "Dark Lord Helion" Raid (best Soldier Valor per Energy) must Burn *hundreds* of Gold Shields to earn enough Soldier Valor for one Tier 3 Gem. It is cheaper, and faster, to spend 20 Gold Shields per Tier 3 Gem at Majerio's Shop. All characters can get Tier 3 Gems from Boss Drops, but every time you miss your Guild's highest Raid due to low Might Rating, you are missing out on the best Valor per Energy and best Valor per Real World Time. Valor you will need for Tier 10 items, Tier 11 items and Tier 4 Gems.
Reminder: The above is a simplification. It does not touch on all issues such as Switching Guilds, buying Tier 9 items, Burning to save a Raid, Burning to get first place, Mercing for Knight Valor and a gazillion other considerations.

7)
Still Fact Checking this one.

8)
If you Raid in BoH (Free Gold Shields):
If you buy less than 310 Gold Shields (approx. $25 USD), or spend less than $10 USD per month on currency, consider the Free Gold Shield offers. If you are a free ($0 IAP) character, very strongly consider the Free Gold Shields offers. These Gold Shields can be used to buy Sigil of Vitality (70 Gold Shields) and the Sigil of Endless Zeal (180 Gold Shields) which make a huge difference in Raid RPP since Phase 1 is usually the easiest of multiple Phase Raids. These Free Gold Shields can also be used to buy Tier 9 Weapon and Tier 9 Armor Bundle when your second character is Level 10 and your first character is Level 25. These Free Gold Shields can be burned (converted to Energy) during "War of Fellmarsh" Raid for maximum Valor.

8)
If you Solo Adventure in BoH (Free Gold Shields):
If you buy less than 310 Gold Shields (approx. $25 USD), or spend less than $10 USD per month on currency, consider the Free Gold Shield offers. If you are a free ($0 IAP) character, very strongly consider the Free Gold Shields offers. If you only play one character, these Gold Shields can be used to buy Sigil of Vitality (70 Gold Shields) and the Sigil of Endless Zeal (180 Gold Shields). Both Sigils are still useful if you play multiple characters, but not as much. It can be difficult to drain five characters if you are Solo Adventuring and using "Dungeon Banking" (see BoH Forum). These Free Gold Shields can also be used to buy Tier 9 Weapon and Tier 9 Armor Bundle when your second character is Level 10 and your first character is Level 25. Later these Free Gold Shields can be used to buy Tier 3 Gems.

9a)
Higher Might Rating improves your Real World Kills Per Minutes. The less time you spend killing Triple Groups and Wounding Raid Bosses, the more Raids you Guild can run or the more time you have for completing Quests or the more time you can spend on Real World pursuits like work or family.
The best Valor per Energy is v1.4.2 "War of Fellmarsh" which takes 551 energy per Tier 4 Gem or 275 combat encounters. The best Silver Coin per Energy is v1.4.2 "The Emperor's Court" which takes 168 energy per Full Gem Slot D (unlock a white Gem Slot and fill it with a Tier 2 Gem) or 168 combat encounters. The faster your Kills Per Minutes, the faster in Real World Time you can get Tier 4 Gems and Full Gem Slot Ds. [Typist's Note: and the more time you will have to edit your husband's BoH Forum articles.]

9b)
Higher Might Rating (attack and defense Stats) help you kill faster and take less damage from attacks. This lets you buy fewer Temple Healings and Potions, so you have more Silver Coins for Tier 8 items, Gems, and Gem Slots. After all Tier 8 items and 40 Tier 2+ Gems, you can buy Alchemist Lockbox, Minor Spirit Runes, Minor Break Runes (v1.4.2 War of Fellmarsh), Minor Purge Runes (v1.4.2 War of Fellmarsh) instead of Temple Healing and Potions. Higher Might Rating saves you Silver Coins.

Everything else is complicated. [Typist's Note: Really. It is. It makes my brain hurt. Just go with the nice synopsis above. Please don't confuse me with him and ask me about the complicated stuff. I will cry. You don't want that. NOBODY wants that. MY TEARS ARE ACID AND THE SQUIRRELS WILL… Wha? Oh. I think I need sleep. Nevermind. Wait… there's a THIRD post to edit? *waaah*]

"Raids & Might, confused yet?" Part 4

Postby Bj_Knows » Sun Oct 21, 2012 7:22 pm

Unraveling Bj's Secrets (The Questions You Keep Asking):

Are CJandBj the same person?
No. We share a iTunes Account.

Is BjofCJandBj addicted to Runes?
Yes. Major Spirit Runes. Minor Spirit Runes in a pinch, but they do not give the same Real World Kills Per Minute.

Is BjofCJandBj ambidexterious?
Yes.

Did BjofCJandBj buy a BlueTooth Keyboard just for Guild Chat?
Yes. BjofCJandBj tends to exceed 256 characters per chat message.

Does CJ actually hide when people ask her complicated questions about my posts?
No. But I get some really nasty looks.

It may be beneficial to purchase +8 gems earlier in your sequence if you reach 6250 might before being full of +6 gems. Suppose a character has all t10 gear and eight +6 gems (placed in ring & amulet) with all the remaining slots unlocked and filled with +4 gems. Purchasing a t11 helm only increases might by 48, since the helm would have only +4 gems. Purchasing a t11 amulet or ring increases might by 96, since these would have +6 gems. Purchasing a +8 gem (about 2x kv as helmet and 1.5x kv as ring/amulet) increases might by 80 when placed in the ring or amulet, and the displaced +6 gem increases might by another 80 when placed in chest armor... the net gain of 160 might is better, per kv spent, than either t11 gear option in this case.
